On the occa­sion of Car­los Gutier­rez and Raven Chacon’s pres­ence in Berlin on res­i­den­cy pro­grams, a work­shop dis­cus­sion cre­ates a space for inten­sive exchange. The two com­posers, activists, and instruc­tors pos­sess a pro­found and lived knowl­edge of indige­nous soci­eties in Bolivia and the US and use this knowledge—in dia­logue with strong­ly diver­gent soci­etal frameworks—to gen­er­ate rel­e­vant, top­i­cal inquiries and design forms in the field of con­tem­po­rary music. Pre­sent­ed are musi­cal forms and com­plex con­texts, pro­vid­ing the start­ing point for a wide-rang­ing, open-dis­cus­sion round of rel­e­vant themes.
