The first event this summer semester 2018 is hosted by the American Academy in Berlin and the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in coöperation with die Reihe. The workshop discussion Indigenous (Sound-)Knowledge And Contemporary Music will feature artists Carlos Gutierrez and Raven Chacon among others.
On the occasion of Carlos Gutierrez and Raven Chacon’s presence in Berlin on residency programs, a workshop discussion creates a space for intensive exchange. The two composers, activists, and instructors possess a profound and lived knowledge of indigenous societies in Bolivia and the US and use this knowledge—in dialogue with strongly divergent societal frameworks—to generate relevant, topical inquiries and design forms in the field of contemporary music. Presented are musical forms and complex contexts, providing the starting point for a wide-ranging, open-discussion round of relevant themes.
This event was co-organized by the American Academy and the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in coöperation with die Reihe. Contributions to auditory art and culture.
